The government of India has taken several initiatives to promote the use of solar energy, subsequently many solar plants have been installed and it is increasing day by day. However, the solar energy from rooftop installation is still lacking and the target is too far to achieve. The rooftop solar (RTS) system has been significantly increased in urban areas but it is still limited in uses in the rural area. In this work, an attempt has been made to identify the challenges and barriers to adaption of solar rooftop installation in rural areas. A survey of 400 people from 20 different villages from Patan and Mehsana district of Gujarat has been conducted. Subsequently, a detailed analysis using the Weighted Average Method and Garrett Ranking Method have been carried with the help of primary data to find the criticality level of different challenges associated in rooftop solar installation in rural areas. Moreover, the possible solution to mitigate these issues has been recommended. This work will be helpful to the policy makers to enhance the use of rooftop solar in rural areas.
