Humanities and Social Sciences
The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) at IITRAM houses the disciplines of Economics, English Literature, Psychology, and Sociology. At present, the Department has five faculty members who teach a diverse range of courses at both the graduate and postgraduate levels. In addition to the compulsory undergraduate courses, HSS offers Department Electives and Open Electives during the 6th and 7th semesters. The Department provides engineering students in their 7th semester with the opportunity to undertake a B.Tech Project in the HSS disciplines. Some of the Department's most sought-after courses include Indigenous Short Stories from India, Bhagwat Gita for Life, Engineering Ethics, Psychology of Happiness and Infrastructure Planning and Management.
The Department offers doctoral programmes in all four disciplines. The Ph.D. programme in the Department has been running since 2017, offering advanced research opportunities in a wide range of contemporary and interdisciplinary fields. Students are engaged in innovative research across diverse areas, addressing both theoretical and applied challenges in current and emerging topics.
The Department offers a Minor in Management program, comprising a series of courses designed to be equally accessible and relevant to students from all branches of engineering. This program enables undergraduate students, starting from the 3rd semester, to register and enrol, providing them with a foundation in management principles alongside their core engineering education.
Additionally, the Department runs Summer Internship Research Program, providing an opportunity for interested students to undertake a 2-month internship during the summer break.

- Summer Research Internship Program (SRIP): TThe Department welcomes interested students with undergraduate or postgraduate degree to participate in the SRIP, a summer research internship program that runs for a period of 2 months. Seats are limited and selected candidates will be offered a stipend. We encourage interested students to regularly check the Institute’s website for important dates and a curated list of project titles.
- Minor in Management: The Department offers Minor in Management program for undergraduate engineering students from 3rd semester onwards. The program is designed to develop key skills in leadership, communication, problem-solving, and decision-making, all of which are essential for effectively managing teams, projects, and resources. Students will need to complete a minimum of 15 credits to obtain a Minor in Management. The program consists of courses that are 03 credits each, carefully curated to achieve the desired learning outcomes.
- Micro Program: The HSS Department at IITRAM provides B.Tech. students with the opportunity to pursue two micro-specialization programs: Human Resource Management and Infrastructure Finance. These programs are designed to enhance interdisciplinary knowledge, equipping students with essential managerial and financial skills, broadening their career prospects, and preparing them for leadership roles in diverse industries.
- B.Tech Project (BTP): The Department provides engineering students in their 7th semester with the opportunity to undertake a B.Tech Project in the HSS disciplines. There is a wide range of topics available to choose from, including but not limited to: The Impact of Public-Private Partnership in Infrastructure, Study on Transport infrastructure/ electric infrastructure/ civil infrastructure, Techno-Economic feasibility of a Smart City Management System, Digitizing and Archiving Indigenous Oral Stories, Architectural practices of Indigenous Communities, Case study on Business Communication, Technological change and Human Behaviour, Different Psychological Aspects, Technology and Women Empowerment, Legal Literacy among youth in India, and Structural Design assessment of Maja Tola. The projects are supervised by faculty members from within the Department, and where necessary, collaborations with faculty members outside the Department are facilitated. The credit requirements for BTP is 08 credits.
