The Basic Science Department comprises of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics disciplines.

Mathematics: The current time is an era of interdisciplinary studies. A subject that joins many branches of studies and knowledge is Mathematics. IITRAM has a very dynamic and strong team of faculties with specialization in diverse areas of Mathematics.

There are 5 faculty members with specialization in areas like Algebra, Banach Algebras, Fuzzy Theory, Harmonic Analysis, and Partial Differential equations, Numerical Analysis, Dynamical Systems, Number Theory and Operator Algebras. There are more than 10 Ph.D. students currently working under guidance of various faculty members.

The vision of the Department is to obtain excellence in teaching and research in the field of Mathematics and its applications. There are more than 20 courses taught at graduate, post graduate and PhD levels. Moreover, the department organizes popular and technical lectures frequently. Teaching and research both go hand in hand at IITRAM. To make Mathematical thinking a routine activity, students are encouraged to organize and participate in Math fests.

Chemistry: The individuality of chemistry as a basic science subject in Engineering Studies are essential because everything that has been created by engineers is composed of chemicals. So, knowledge regarding this is indispensable for engineers. Keep in mind the above mention fact, we have created the chemistry contained through social and technological contextualization right from the very first year. Faculty members in Chemistry have expertise in the field of Physical, Inorganic, Applied and Material chemistry.

Chemistry is an experimental science. Thus, it is important that students of chemistry perform experiments in the laboratory to gain insights and develop understanding of the theories underlying various phenomenon. Laboratory experimentation allows students the opportunity to develop techniques and other manipulative skills that students of science must master. Our laboratory is designed to support and illustrate chemical concepts studied in the lecture portion. The major aim of the laboratory was not only to see how much chemistry the student could learn, but rather to allow the student to demonstrate for himself/herself the usefulness of chemistry and encourage analytical thinking, technique and logistics. This lab is equipped with high end equipment like Gas-Chromatography, UV-visible spectrophotometer, Heating oven, Muffle furnace, High vacuum pump, Rota evaporator as well as heat controlled Magnetic stirrer, Heating Mental, pH Meter, Conductivity Meter, Potentiometer, UV Chamber etc.

Physics: The discipline of Physics was established with an ambition to pursue high-level teaching methodologies and quality research in modern areas of experimental and theoretical physics, as well as interdisciplinary areas of science and technology. Physics discpline supports undergraduate B.Tech. Physics laboratory is well equipped with many sophisticated instruments like FT-IR, UV spectrometer, pH meter, magnetic hotplate, high end analytical balance etc. Program that include compulsory courses and open electives and also offers Ph.D. programme in physics. The research programs aim to train the young scientists to acquire knowledge and make them as global leaders in science and technology to communicate and engage with the broader society. The doctoral candidates are mentored in diverse areas of physical sciences, like Molecular spectroscopy of soft-material and their applications, Functionalized Nano-structures and their application as sensor, Ionic liquids in energy applications, Renewable energy materials and energy storage, Magnetism and magnetic materials, Superconductivity, Multiferroics, Theoretical High Energy Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology etc. The Physics discpline also have sponsored projects and also conducts engaging workshops and conferences.
