Industry-Relevant Undergraduate / Graduate Research and Development at IITRAM

Since its inception, IITRAM has proactively invested human resources, technical knowhow and administrative acumen in catering to the diverse objectives of the Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector and the entrepreneurial spirit of the students. The aim is to meet the following challenges:

  1. Inculcation of interpersonal skills, innovation, creative thinking, higher-level problem solving and decision-making
  2. To equip the students to attempt and fail early, re-innovate and re-design for success in a fast-changing professional workplace

These objectives are met by seamlessly bringing the reality of the world of work into the process of education, thereby boosting the confidence of students as they learn a lot by being 'present' in the workplace. Students work on relevant industry problems, under the joint guidance of professional experts of industry, and faculty. For instance, for enhancement of quality of learning experience through skill-based education and exposure to scalable real-time problems, an innovative concept of Industry-defined projects were introduced for a Course titled Advanced Manufacturing Processes.

Even the laboratories set up at IITRAM go through the requisite compliance to this underlying theme of industry-relevance. A couple of examples are the Quanser Control Laboratory and the Ecosense Renewable Energy Laboratory. IITRAM has also introduced a unique minor program in Aero-Robotics after an intellectual exchange between academia and the aero industry, wherein industry and academia are working hand-in-hand. IITRAM is one of the leading institute in evolving courses on Defense Technology in collaboration with IDST. It is anticipated to carry out research work in association with leading defense organizations’ labs on emerging technologies. As a testimony to these efforts, just in the past three years, students at IITRAM have been successful in completing 70+ industry defined projects.
