OpenCourseWare
OpenCourseWare (OCW) is an example of the initiatives emerging in recent years to promote free, unlimited access to learning. In April 2001, The Massachusetts Institute of Technology launched the OCW-MIT movement to offer open access to course material used by university staff in their teaching, together with a study guide.
This initiative had a huge impact and led to other internationally prestigious universities to join the movement, creating their own projects in coordination with OCW-MIT. Universia has been committed to this project from day one, promoting the OCW Universia Consortium and establishing a partnership agreement with the Polytechnic University of Madrid for joint development of the initiative.

An OpenCourseWare is a free and open digital publication of high quality educational materials, organized as courses. The OpenCourseWare Consortium is a collaboration of more than 100 higher education institutions and associated organizations from around the world creating a broad and deep body of open educational content using a shared model. The mission of the OpenCourseWare Consortium is to advance education and empower people worldwide through opencourseware.

Courses offered on the UMass Boston open courseware site include biology and health sciences. The open courseware initiative is fairly new at UMass, however, the collection is expanding as more faculty are contributing materials.
