  • The Director of “Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research” from 2005-10, while on lien from IIT Bombay.

Administrative responsibilities in IIT Bombay

  • Held the position of Professor-in-Charge, New IIT Mentoring Cell, Responsible for setting up new IITs at Goa and Dharwad.
  • Held the position of Dean, Academic Programmes in IIT Bombay from 2010 to 2013.
  • Head, Physics Department, IIT Bombay from 1996-99 and from 2004-05.
  • Chairman of GATE’96 and Vice-chairman of GATE’94. GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) is an all India examination conducted by IITs on behalf of Ministry Of Human Resource Development, Government of India.
  • Post-Doctoral Research

    i. At Laboratoire de Magnetisme, CNRS, Bellevue, France, 1977-79 as a French Govt. Fellow.

    ii. At California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, USA, 1979-80 as IBM Research Fellow.

  • Research Activities

    i. More than 120 publications in the peer reviewed journals.

    ii. So far guided or co-guided 18 Ph.D. students (excluding two who are in final stages) and a very large number of Masters and Bachelor students.

    iii. Handled multiple sponsored projects from National and International Agencies.
